Vocabulário de Meteorologia

Uma das formas bastante úteis de ampliar o vocabulário em inglês, é organizar sua lista de palavras por meio de tópicos. Por exemplo, palavras e frases que são usadas dentro do contexto escolar, culinária, etc.

Nessa postagem, nós colocaremos um conjunto de palavras e expressões que são usadas dentro do contexto climático.

A pleasant weather: Um clima agradável. Ex.: Today we've got a quite pleasant weather. (Hoje temos um clima bem agradável.)

Weather permitting... : Se o tempo permitir. Ex.: Well, I don't know for sure, but weather permitting, I wanna go to the beach. (Bom, não sei ao certo, mas se o tempo (clima) permitir, eu quero ir à praia.)

Weatherman: Meteriologista. Ex.: What do you wanna be when you grow up? I wanna be a weatherman. (O que queres ser quando crescer? Eu quero ser um meteorologista.)

What’s the weather like? Como está o tempo? Ex.: I gotta go out. What’s the weather like? (Eu tenho que sair. Como está o tempo?)

Turn bad: Fechar (Ficar ruim)
Ex: The weather suddenly turned bad. (O clima fechou de repente.)

Drought: Seca
Ex: In Missouri, the drought lasted from 1930 to 1941. (Em Missouri, a seca durou de 1930 a 1941.)

Clear up: Melhorar (clima)
Ex: The weather cleared up early in the afternoon. (O tempo melhorou no início da tarde.)

Fog: Nevoeiro
Ex: The plane couldn´t take off because of the fog. (O avião não pode decolar por causa do nevoeiro.)

Lightning: Relâmpago, raio
Ex: Lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place. (Raio não cai duas vezes no mesmo lugar.)

Sensitive to the heat/cold: Calorento/friorento
Ex: He is sensitive to the heat. (Ele é calorento.)
Ex: Are you sensitive to the cold? (Você é friorento?)

How is the weather?; what’s the weather like?: Como está o clima?
Ex: What’s the weather like today? It is rainy. (Como está o tempo hoje? Está chuvoso.)

Strange weather: Tempo esquisito, estranho
Ex: What strange weather we’re having! (Que tempo estranho esse!)

Rain: Chover
Ex: It’s finally decided to rain. (Finalmente resolveu chover.)

It looks like rain; It looks like it’s going to rain: Parece que vai chover.
Ex: Stay here. It looks like it’s going to rain. (Fique aqui. Parece que vai chover.)

Weather forecast: Previsão do tempo
Ex: The weather forecast says it’s going to rain more. (Há previsão de mais chuva.)

Cold-weather; hot-weather: De clima frio; de clima quente
Ex: Canada is a cold-weather country. (O Canadá é um país de clima frio.)
Ex: It usually happens in hot-weather countries. (Isto costuma acontecer em países de clima quente.)

To be sunny, to be windy: Fazer sol, ventar
Ex: It’s going to be sunny tomorrow. (Vai fazer sol amanhã.)
Ex: It is windy today. (Está ventando hoje.)
